Job Description


Duties & Responsibilities:







General organisation and efficiency of the Station Fire Service.





Technical administration, discipline, training and efficiency of the members of the Fire service.





Advice on Station and Unit fire prevention and fire control measures and inspections to ensure that regulations for these purposes are observed.





Attendance when available at fire calls.





Training of Unit personnel in methods of fire fighting, raising the alarm and summoning assistance.





Efficiency and first line servicing of Station and Unit fire fighting equipment and appliances and maintenance of records of servicing and tests.





Liaison with the Local Fire Authority and with other MOD Fire Services in the vicinity of RAF Cranwell/Scampton/Barkston Heath.





Act as a member of the Station Fire Committee, Health and Safety Line managers Committee and Flight Safety Committee.





Act on and give advice as part of the stations MACR committee.





Encourage the development of personnel in his/her Section, within the requirements of the contract, to enable them to improve their knowledge and/or performance.





The Station Fire Manager is to brief all staff on a regular basis at least monthly after the Section Leader meetings.





The Station Fire Manager is to produce an annual financial forecast to include all training requirements as required.

The Station Fire Manager is responsible for monitoring the financial plan for his section and identifying any shortfalls to the Contract Manager.

The Station Fire Manager is to performance manage all staff within his area of responsibility including actively managing absence and completing employee appraisals in accordance with the Serco Management System.



Skills & Attributes:





Candidates must be



Suitably qualified, current, physically and medically fit, with the personal qualities suitable for employment with the Fire Service.



Candidates must have held an appropriate fire service management position, and have a proven track record in airfield firefighting and crash rescue techniques in a senior supervisory capacity. They should also be trained to a higher standard of Fire Prevention Techniques

Knowledge & Experience:





Essential



Will need to hold the qualifications and experience required of MoD publications AP957, JSP 426 and JSP 446.

This includes the need to hold the MoD FS CTE Potential Fire Officers qualification or civilian equivalent.

Must hold the DFTDC Modular Fire Prevention qualification, (Module 3), or civilian equivalent.

Applicants not RN/RAF or Defence Fire Service trained will need to provide details of all relevant training, which will be subject to vetting by the MoD.
